Women's Activewear

Activewear is cut with negative ease on purpose — the garment's actual measurements are smaller than the body it's meant to fit, so the fabric's stretch (not the cut) provides the room. That's the opposite assumption a size chart for a woven shirt makes, which is why activewear sizing often doesn't map cleanly onto a brand's regular-clothing size chart even when both use the same size numbers.

Rise height changes both fit and function here more than in casual bottoms: a high-rise legging sits at or above the natural waist and tends to stay in place during movement, while a mid-rise pair can slip during exercise regardless of how well it fits at rest. The rise a brand calls "high-rise" also isn't standardized — checking the actual waistband measurement matters more than the label.

Fabric composition is worth reading past the marketing name: a higher elastane or spandex percentage holds compression and shape through repeated wash cycles, while a lower-stretch blend loosens noticeably faster. Two leggings sized identically can end up fitting very differently after a few months, purely based on that percentage.
