Women's Skirts
Where a skirt's waistband actually sits changes both its fit and its effective length: a high-waist cut sits above the natural waist and a low- or natural-waist cut sits at or below it, so two skirts labelled the same length can hit at genuinely different points on the same body depending on where the waistband starts measuring from. The waist placement callout matters as much as the length itself.
Fabric structure decides how a skirt behaves on the body more than its size number does. A stiff or structured fabric holds a shape away from the hips and thighs — the classic A-line or pencil silhouette — while a fluid, drapey fabric in the identical pattern will skim and cling more closely to the same body. The same size in two different fabrics can look and fit noticeably differently.
A length label like "midi" is relative to height, not a fixed measurement: the same midi skirt can sit well below the knee on a shorter frame and closer to the knee on a taller one. Checking the garment's actual length measurement against your own height (rather than trusting the length name alone) is the more reliable read.
